Introduction
On behalf of our esteemed client, a highly regarded secondary school in Waltham Forest, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) to join their dedicated team. This is a full-time, permanent position commencing in September, offering a competitive salary and benefits package.
Role Overview
As the school's SENCo, you will play a crucial role in leading and managing the provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). You will be responsible for:
- Strategic Leadership: Developing and implementing the school's SEND policy, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, and promoting a whole-school approach to inclusion.
- Assessment and Intervention: Coordinating the identification, assessment, and support of students with SEND, working collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
- Individual Education Plans (IEPs): Developing and reviewing IEPs for students with SEND, monitoring their progress, and ensuring appropriate interventions are in place.
- Training and Support: Providing training and guidance to staff on SEND issues, promoting inclusive practice, and fostering a positive learning environment for all students.
- External Liaison: Building and maintaining relationships with external agencies, such as local authorities, health services, and educational psychologists.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): A recognized teaching qualification with QTS.
- National Award for SEN Coordination: The National Award for SEN Coordination or equivalent qualification.
- Experience: Proven experience as a SENCo or in a similar role, preferably within a secondary school setting.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation, policy, and practice.
- Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
